I recently received The Bayer Didget™ Glucose Meter for Nintendo DS.
This has got to be one of the greatest inventions for helping kids keep track of their blood sugar levels. Bayer has teamed up with Nintendo to come up with a fun solution that is loosely based on the game Pokemon. The game offers incentives for good testing practices, and by testing your glucose levels up to four times a day. The player is then able to transfer good habits credits into game play tokens, which allow the player to buy special items within the game.
As for over all game play, the graphics are great but the story line is weak, and has Finial Fantasy/Pokemon quality to it. It is my general opinion that Nintendo should release a verity of games for this cause, as they have other games such as My Weight Loss Coach, My Stop Smoking Coach, and 10 Minute Yoga.
Another fun feature of this gadget, is that you can connect the meter to a computer and upload the information to a special website, in which you can track your progress, calculate carb intake per-meal, and even compete in online games.
I give this product a 6 out of 10. I believe that this is a step in the right direction and believe this to be the next generation of health care maintainance.
