I was directed to a website that I want all my friends and family to see especially the ones here in Washington since this is the place that LOVES to do this. Their are companies all over the Olympic Peninsula who violate their contracts with Master Card, and Visa. It is illegal and against the terms of services and contracts that businesses around the nation have in order to accept credit cards/debit cards.
YOU MAY NOT SET A MINIMUM AMOUNT FOR PURCHASE TO OFFSET YOUR COSTS, YOU MAY HOWEVER CHARGE A SMALL CONVENIENCE FEE ONLY IF THEY ARE OFFERING A SERVICE OUTSIDE OF THEIR BUSINESSES MAIN FUNCTION.
I know that I myself do not carry cash and am off put when retailers try and impose this min. $5.00 transaction. I have printed out and begun carrying this around with me and show this to shop keepers here in Washington whenever they try and impose these fees on me. I understand that small businesses are trying to make money but it is unlawful and wrong to do so by these means. If you or your business is doing this you may wish to stop. I too am a small business owner and I too accept credit cards and use merchant gateways, I do not impose my service fees on my customers, and I think its wrong of others companies/businesses that do. Please educate yourselves friends, and print this out and keep it with you so that you can shop and not be restricted to a min. purchase.
