Just because the holidays can be filled with wonderful culinary creations, that are not so wonderful for our glucose levels, does not mean that the Diabetic in your life should suffer.
How about making some of your favorite holiday dishes sugar free? Everyone loves a good apple cinnamon pie, but all the sugar and spices that go into making the pie filling can really cause havoc for Diabetics. I know I have mention this product in the past, but after having several pies for Thanksgiving made with it I felt it necessary to tell you all about it again.
Sweedpies.com makes all natural gluten/sugar free pie bases and Apple Butter. Their products are simple and easy to use, and best of all they are really inexpensive.
Also don’t forget that cooking with sugar substitute is just the same as cooking with regular sugar. Also now Splenda has created a Brown Sugar mix which still has regular sugar in it but is more diabetic friendly. So try and think about the insulin challenged this holiday season. Even if you are not the baking type, many stores are now carrying a large selection of sugar free products, and even some bakeries will make things for you if you call in advanced.
