How to Practice Travel Blogging Without Actually Going Anywhere Outside Your City
Travel blogging is appealing because so many people want to travel but they are
1) introverted,
2) lacking in time and funds, and
3) paranoid about the dangers that could be anywhere.
There are dozens of other reasons why someone wouldn’t travel like they want to, and you can reach these people via a travel blog that really doesn’t include much travel anywhere.
Where Would You Love to Go? What Do You Want to See? Fellow Hopeful Travelers Would Love Relating to Your Hopes and Dreams
Travel blog audiences are often like-minded readers; those that long to go where you go but without the time, energy, money, etc.
They find it awesome that you can travel within your own city to see and experience amazing things, regardless of how long you’ve lived there. Your readers relate to you because you’re so real, so be upfront and confident when conveying your travel dreams and destination hopefuls.
Practice Descriptive Travel and Creative Writing by Taking a Trip to Your Own Backyard…Yes, Really.
To get yourself in the right mind to write awesome travel blog posts, do practice runs around your home and backyard. Treat your backyard like a destination.
Describe what you see, what you do, the beauty of everything around you—even some things you don’t like. Your creative writing can only get better with these kinds of descriptive exercises.
Tip: When you feel comfortable, take your destination practice outside of your property. Explore new restaurants, museums, parks, shops, and other places in and around your own city.
Even the open mri machine at your local doctor office is up for descriptive grabs if you feel the writing flow—haha. Just write.
Hire Yourself Out as a Freelancer for Descriptive Writing of Hotels, Suites, or Known-Everywhere Destinations
Some hotel websites receive pictures and descriptions of hotel rooms without ever having set foot in the hotel room itself.
It takes imagination, but you could hire yourself out as a content writer for travel websites. Ones that get descriptive when telling potential travelers about the destination itself, the hotels in the area, and the rooms or suites in those hotels. It’s not a dream job—but it will give you practice and supplemental income as a content writer.
