CONGRATULATIONS MR. PRESIDENT
I am so happy that I voted.
Though its undoubtedly true to say that mobility vehicles designed for wheelchair access exist, like AM General's MV-1 these generally relegate the wheelchair user to backseat passenger. Vehicles that do allow a wheelchair behind the controls are expensive made-to-order conversions of people carriers and mini-buses. The Kenguru is about as far from a people carrier as it's possible to get, being a small nimble electric vehicle, but one designed specifically for quick, easy access by, and driving from, a wheelchair. Its makers claim it is the first drive-from-wheelchair electric car.
The Kenguru has only a single door to the rear of the vehicle for direct wheelchair access. It's opened by remote control. Inside the driver is nestled in a 350-kg (772-lb) fiberglass cocoon 2125 mm (83.6 in) long, 1620 mm (63.8 in) wide and 1525 m (60 in) tall. That's 375 mm (14.8 in) shorter than a smart for two, and only 15 mm (0.6 in) wider: extremely compact, in other words. Empty weight with the batteries increases to 550 kg (1200 lb).
Power from the batteries is delivered to two 2-kW motors located on the rear axle. These afford a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28 mph), a range of between 70 and 110 km (43 and 68 miles) and a climbing ability limited to 20-percent gradients - modest, but Kenguru is positioned very much for short inner-city trips (the phrase "enough is as good as a feast" irresistibly springs to mind). Motorcycle-style handlebars provide steering, though a joystick-controlled version is currently in development.
Initially developed by Hungarian company Kenguru Services, the Kenguru has design is at least six years old. It was spotted by Texan lawyer Stacy Zoern (a wheelchair user herself) who setup Community Cars which now manufacturers Kengurus in Pflugerville.
The Kenguru is priced at US$25,000, but that this can be significantly reduced where electric vehicle or vocational rehabilitation incentives are available. The vehicle is set for a US launch in 6 to 12 months. Distribution in a number of European countries should follow. Community Cars is currently seeking investment through RocketHub to develop the joystick-controlled model.
A pair of scientists at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco has found that a compound derived from marijuana could stop metastasis in many kinds of aggressive cancer, potentially altering the fatality of the disease forever.
"It took us about 20 years of research to figure this out, but we are very excited," said Pierre Desprez, one of the scientists behind the discovery, to The Huffington Post. "We want to get started with trials as soon as possible."
The San Francisco Chronicle first reported on the finding, which has already undergone both laboratory and animal testing, and is awaiting permission for clinical trials in humans.
Desprez, a molecular biologist, spent decades studying ID-1, the gene that causes cancer to spread. Meanwhile, fellow researcher Sean McAllister was studying the effects of Cannabidiol, or CBD, a non-toxic, non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Finally, the pair collaborated, combining CBD and cells containing high levels of ID-1 in a petri dish.
"What we found was that his Cannabidiol could essentially 'turn off' the ID-1," Desprez told HuffPost. The cells stopped spreading and returned to normal.
"We likely would not have found this on our own," he added. "That's why collaboration is so essential to scientific discovery."
Desprez and McAllister first published a paper about the finding in 2007. Since then, their team has found that CBD works both in the lab and in animals. And now, they've found even more good news.
"We started by researching breast cancer," said Desprez. "But now we've found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers--brain, prostate--any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present."
Desprez hopes that clinical trials will begin immediately.
"We've found no toxicity in the animals we've tested, and Cannabidiol is already used in humans for a variety of other ailments," he said. Indeed, the compound is used to relieve anxiety and nausea, and, since it is non-psychoactive, does not cause the "high" associated with THC.
While marijuana advocates will surely praise the discovery, Desprez explained that it's not so easy as just lighting up.
"We used injections in the animal testing and are also testing pills," he said. "But you could never get enough Cannabidiol for it to be effective just from smoking."
Furthermore, the team has started synthesizing the compound in the lab instead of using the plant in an effort to make it more potent.
"It's a common practice," explained Desprez. "But hopefully it will also keep us clear of any obstacles while seeking approval."

Russia is about to start tapping into a huge source of diamonds that could supply the world market for the next 3,000 years.
Scientists estimate there are 'trillions of carats' lying beneath a 35million-year-old asteroid crater in Siberia - more than ten times the global stockpile.
The Kremlin has known about the reserves under the 62-mile-wide impact zone since the 1970s.
But it has kept it a secret until now because it was already reaping big profits in what back then was a heavily controlled market.

The Soviets had also been producing various artificial diamonds for industry which proved a lucrative enterprise.
Government officials finally gave scientists from the nearby Novosibirsk Institute of Geology and Mineralogy permission to lift the lid on the crater's hidden gems in a meeting with journalists over the weekend.
The official news agency, ITAR-Tass, said the diamonds at the site, known as Popigai Astroblem, are 'twice as hard' as the usual gemstones, making them ideal for industrial and scientific uses.
According to The Christian Science Monitor, the institute's director, Nikolai Pokhilenko, told the agency that the new source would cause a radical shake-up in the precious stones market.
Lucrative industry: These diamonds, weighing over 50 carats each, were found in Russia's Yakutia mine, which has been rich resource for the country, but nothing compared to the new one
Russia's lucrative diamond industry was fuelled in large part by the colossal mine at Mirny, above, in Yakutia, which produced immense profits for the country.
Operations started in the 1950s when scientists discovered a huge diamond deposit at the site, some 4,300km from Moscow.
In the following half century, the mine yielded diamonds worth at least $17bn (£10bn).
The pit shut down 11 years ago due to dwindling yields and safety issues.
The Russian state diamond company Alrosa later began mining underground, but this is far more expensive and came during the financial meltdown.
The new source at Popigai Astroblem makes Mirny look like a mere rabbit hole and will bring a much-needed revival to the industry.
'The resources of super-hard diamonds contained in rocks of the Popigai crypto-explosion structure are by a factor of ten bigger than the world's all known reserves,' he said.
'We are speaking about trillions of carats. By comparison, present-day known reserves in Yakutia (a Russian mine) are estimated at one billion carats.'
The stones at Popigai are known as 'impact diamonds' which result when an object like a meteor strikes an existing diamond deposit.
They are also unique, which will make them even more sought-after in high-precision scientific and industrial markets.
Pokhilenko said: 'The value of impact diamonds is added by their unusual abrasive features and large grain size.
'This expands significantly the scope of their industrial use and makes them more valuable for industrial purposes.'
Diamond production was booming in Russia in 2007 when output reached $1.35billion, 98 per cent of which was exported to Belgium, Israel, South-east Asia and the USA.
But the bottom fell out in 2009 when polished diamond production fell to an unprecedented low of US$350 million during the economic crisis.
With world markets starting to show signs of resilience, this may explain why Russia has chosen now to reveal its hidden treasure.

The federal government claims that marijuana has ‘no accepted medical use’ and continues to classify it in the same category as heroin, MDMA, and PCP. This claim is made by the government despite countless studies existing which highlight its many industrial and medicinal uses. One very recent study sheds light not only on how the plant could be beneficial, but how casual marijuana use doesn’t even lead to lung damage.
Marijuana Use May Actually Impact Lungs Positively
The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, examined 5,115 men and women over the course of two decades – between March 26, 1985 and August 19, 2006. The data also showed that high-use of the plant, about one joint every day for 7 years, had little to no negative impact on lung air flow rates or lung volume. What’s shocking is that there is evidence pointing to slight increases in lung air flow rates as well as enhancements in lung volume from occasional marijuana use. According to one of the study’s co-authors, Stefan Kertesz:
“With marijuana use increasing and large numbers of people who have been and continue to be exposed, knowing whether it causes lasting damage to lung function is important for public-health messaging and medical use of marijuana…at levels of marijuana exposure commonly seen in Americans, occasional marijuana use was associated with increases in lung air flow rates and increases in lung capacity.”
Yet this is only one more finding to compliment the many past findings regarding the lack of danger and positive aspects of cannabis. Studies have found marijuana use to be beneficial in treating multiple sclerosis, Tourette syndrome, obsessive-compulsive disorder, brachial plexus neuropathies, insomnia, memory disorders, anxiety disorders, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and many more conditions. Most notably, the plant possesses a significant painkilling effect as well as noticeable improvements in sleep.
Some cannabis activists actually state that certain properties of marijuana can act as a “cure-all” in the right forms. Marijuana low in THC, the active ingredient responsible for psychoactive effects, and high in CBD (cannabidiol), offer the health promoting aspects of cannabis while avoiding the “high”. Although both THC and CBD are considered cannabinoids, CBD acts as a neutralizer and blocks the psychoactive effects of THC. Hemp is a perfect example of a plant containing low or no THC levels and high CBD levels, yet it is still illegal to grow within the United States.
Whether individuals choose to use marijuana or hemp should be their choice. There is plenty of information available portraying the positive aspects of these plants, but government censorship still persists.
An article was released not to long ago about a woman who breastfeeds her father. Causing much debate in real life and on the internet comments and judgments began flowing. However, I do understand why.
You see her father is battling cancer and uses it daily to boost his immune system. The Taboo nature circling such an act clearly defines the act as almost Incestual though the father and daughter claimingly say there are no sexual connotations one must beg to differ as feeding directly from your own daughter is uncalled for in days where there are Breast Milk Banks where you can purchase it, or pumps to extract.
Interesting to say the least.
Savannah Barry, a 16-year-old diabetic, is criticizing the TSA after an agent incorrectly instructed her to walk through a metal detector despite the fact she was wearing an expensive insulin pump. The pump stopped working shortly after the security check.
The TSA website provides the following guidance to diabetic travelers: "If you are concerned or uncomfortable about going through the walk-through metal detector with your insulin pump, notify the Security Officer that you...would like a full-body pat-down." Barry followed those instructions last week as she tried to catch a flight out of Salt Lake City, but she was asked to walk through the body scanner anyway.
"When someone in a position of authority tells you it is -- you think that its right," Barry told ABC 4 Salt Lake City. "So, I said, 'Are you sure I can go through with the pump? It's not going to hurt the pump?' And she said, 'No, no you're fine.'"
Then the pump stopped working.
The girl's mother, Sandra Barry, quickly called the manufacturer of the pump, which couldn't guarantee that it wasn't damaged during the screening process, reports MSNBC. She was told to disconnect from the pump immediately after arriving home in Colorado, where she switched to insulin shots.
Ironically, Barry ended up having to be patted down and have ber bags searched anyway because screeners needed to inspect her insulin and packages of juice.
"When they saw her juice, they panicked and they didn’t know what to do," Sandra Barry told ABC 7 Denver. "A diabetic is going to need a source of sugar, preferably liquid. I can assure you she’s not going to blow up a 737 with an insulin pump and three Capri Sun Juice(s)."
This incident highlights the need for TSA agents to be better educated in order to to deal with those who need medically necessitated pat downs, according to Sandra Barry, who has filed a formal complaint.
“It’s not a one-time thing and we’re going to keep putting the pressure on them,” she told MSNBC.
Late last month it was reported that some TSA agents have been hired without completing full background checks.

What do you do when traveling? Have you experienced this type of treatment from the under qualified workers of TSA? What would you do if they tried to do this to you?

I had been feeling shitty for a while and just got it all down on paper one night and decided to turn it into a song, and I found my man Zachary Baekelandt and he made my dream a reality. As you probably remember I had another song made for me called Lives are on the Line, which was more of a Country/Blues feel. I am hoping to get enough music together to release an album, that has songs that are ranging in all topics. So I have Diabetes, and Depression, now I just need to think of some more.
Please tell me what you think about this song. I look forward to your comments
Ok so I just got done watching this Youtube clip from 8 News Now in Henderson Nevada of 6 Police Officers beating a man who was in Diabetic Shock. They can be seen kicking and hitting him. All because he didn’t pull over in time. See this is what is wrong with the American Police Force. They automatically resort to violence rather than to talk things out or even get the just of what is going on in the situation. You can clearly see that the guy is not responsive, and makes no threating movements. I understand that being a Cop is a hard job and that they are putting their lives on the line daily, but really is force necessary when it comes to all situations.
What are your thoughts on this?

The recent media back lash on popular media chief Paula Deen has brought many people to be angry with her over the fact that she has hidden her diagnosis of being a type 2 diabetic for over three years.
Many people claim that she is being hypocritical about being diabetic when she has unveiled such dishes as her Bacon Cheese Burger on a Glazed Doughnut, and Deep Fried Cheese Cake.
Common sense will tell you that these are not every day meals, but things to be enjoyed from time to time. Most of the harsh criticism come from her latest move to become the spokesperson for a new Diabetic Drug in development by Novo Nordisk. People are attacking her left and right for concocting such decadent dishes and now trying to profit from being diabetic.
It is my personal opinion that if you cook and eat the dishes that she showcases on her program daily, then of course you are going to have health problems. But the fact of the matter remains, most southern cooking is about rich foods, doused in butter, gravy, and other sinful ingredients. In a world where there is a McDonalds or other fast food joint on every corner, we are a country that loves our fast foods and easy meals. Making poor food choices isn't something new. “USDA’s food intake surveys show that between 1977-78 and 1994-96, the
share of daily caloric intake from food away from home increased from 18
percent to 32 percent. Spending on such foods has also grown to account for
about half of total food expenditures in 2004, up from 34 percent in 1974.”
I personally support Paula Deen. As she said “I've always said, 'Practice moderation, y'all.' I'll probably say that a little louder now,"

Many of us have come to know and love Food Networks Paula Deen, but many of us didn’t know that she had a small secret, she is Diabetic.
It was on a routine doctor’s visit for a physical exam, as she does every six months, but that day she left knowing that she was now a Type 2 Diabetic.
Paula said that she waited almost 3 years to tell anyone because she needed to be in a better place in her life and be ‘better armed’ for when people asked her about her condition. Paula Deen has suffered from acute Agoraphobia for years, and has worked hard at coming out of her shell, and did not want a media storm surrounding her announcement.
As for her savory buttery dishes, she makes no plans on changing them, just the amounts she eats taking into consideration her insulin dependency.
Today Paula Deen turns 65, Happy Birthday !!
